Wednesday

Oh Ricoh!

Saturday it rained again. All day! Then it continued into my birthday- a sweet present from mother nature. I spent the morning with my film camera and lots of reading and videos, trying to get a grasp of aperture and shutter and film speed (oh my!)
Up until this point I just couldn't figure my Ricoh out. I had produced two blank rolls of film- such a frustrating waste of time. My one roll that I had turned out was all pretty much underexposed and just.. Off. Turns out film and manual settings are kind of complicated!
But then... Magic happened. I took mad and brin around all day and we played photographer, assistant and model. Mad wanted photos of dance stuff. At first I was unsure and confused, guessing. Another blank roll was born. Then tears. Redoing makeup and hair, trucking out again to the same spots. It felt different this time.
It felt like the film had been caught. Because it finally had... (I was loading the camera wrong.)
And the photos turned out beautifully. Like, kind of perfect- to me. I can't wait to show you!

love after love

The time will come when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say
sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger
who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread.
Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life...

Take down the love
letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs,
the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit.
Feast on your life.
