4th of July part 1

Seth had to work the morning of the 4th, so gin and I spent the day lying outside on the grass with red lipstick on. (only I had the lipstick on, duh). We also went around the house and found all the patriotic colors we could.
When Seth was home at two, we went to the boothes on the library grounds. There was a band playing, lots of handmade goods and yummy food. We walked around, looking, chatting, taking it all in. Then we headed to the store for a treat. Our plan was to make sugar cookies, but we decided that was a lot more work than we wanted. So we got a box of donuts instead! Chocolate chocolate. My favorite, except for Krispy Kreme. We went home and got blankets, ordered pizza, and made our way to the stadium of fire.
After a few tense moments trying to find a parking spot and a place to sit outside, we were finally settled. We listened to the beach boys jam and sang and danced in the warm night air, waiting for the fireworks to start.
And start they did. I always forget how loud they are, echoing off the mountains. Ginny was more than terrified and shook like a leaf in a wind storm. She kind of had a come apart.
We came away sweaty, smelling of fire, and covered in scratches. A perfect fourth!

love after love

The time will come when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say
sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger
who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread.
Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life...

Take down the love
letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs,
the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit.
Feast on your life.
