Thursday

i've done that all my life until now.

Aerial view of Grand Canyon South Rim *(start of our hike)
I love using photos from my grandpa. First because I don't need to edit them due to their already amazing color/exposure/film quality. Second because they are at once intelligent, vintage and one of a kind.
[Just a shout out to his prowess in the non-professional photography field - of which I can only hope to attain myself someday.]
We are setting out for our rim to rim today. I talked about it briefly in March, but we ended up changing the dates in order to have ample time to prepare and so that we wouldn't be blundering our way through a crack in the earth at the hottest time of the year. Nevertheless, I still don't feel prepared and consequently I am feeling slightly nervous this morning. We don't actually start our descent until tomorrow but that feels sooooo soon! I think I'm going to skip out on work early and take a short nap before I go buy me some yummy freeze-dried camping meals.
Until we meet again.

haha jess, your poor car! i did that once too.

love after love

The time will come when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say
sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger
who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread.
Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life...

Take down the love
letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs,
the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit.
Feast on your life.

~Derek Walcott
