And you stop

And you stop looking for guarantees because you’ve learned that the only thing you can really count on is the unexpected and that whatever happens, you’ll learn to deal with it. And you learn that the only thing you must truly fear is the great robber baron of all time-- fear itself. So you learn to step right into and through your fears because to give into fear is to give away the right to live life on your terms. You learn that much of life truly is a self-fulfilling prophesy and you learn to go after what you want and not to squander your life living under a cloud of indecision or feelings of impending doom.

Picture from my little excursion the other day.

I have adjusted a number of things in my life (mainly my perspective) and I am feeling a lot better. My personal preference day was really lovely. I woke up late. I went running. I spent four hours at the university library catching up on school work (and writing my informative speech on the backstreet boys which I gave today in my public speaking class. I'll let you know how that went when I get my grade.) I vacuumed up the dead swiftys that were crusting into the carpet in the corner of my room. I made my bed and put away all my clothes. I listened to some soft music. I watched the wind in the trees. I stretched. I drank lime-water and ate raw veggies all day. I shaved. I took a 40-minute long shower. I kept my phone and computer off most of the day. I drove with the windows down and the radio off.
To name a few things.

I have also decided to cut my hours at work to the minimum for full time. Those five extra hours will make a big difference.
Thank you for all your comments and love :]

(The above text should not be considered a direct quote from The Awakening by Sonny Carroll, because I believe it is slightly altered. I don't know by whom, and it is obviously based on The Awakening, so I am linking to Ms. Carroll for credit. I'm not using the original because I like this rendition better.)

love after love

The time will come when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say
sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger
who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread.
Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life...

Take down the love
letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs,
the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit.
Feast on your life.

~Derek Walcott
