There is a time.
I sat at dinner with my best friend/sister Jenna tonight.
Jenna goes by Gena. Just so you know.
Jenna = Gena.
Gena's brother, wife and adorable son are moving to JOISEY [that's Jersey. I try to be funny] on Saturday. Which is fantastic and adventuresome and a little scary but ultimately beautiful. And also provides a place for us to stay that is less than 2 hours from New York.
Alas, I am off track.
We had a goodbye dinner for Gena's bro/wife/son.
And somewhere in the conversation, the inevitable question/comment [the one that always comes up if you're eating dinner with a mormon vegetarian] was placed upon the dinner table.
This time in comment form.
Matter of factly.
In a 'I am assuming you have not thought about this important little fact/belief/revelation/doctrine that we as Latter Day Saints believe in, so I will now dispense this information to you which will in turn change you back to the normal and acceptable meat eating ways you should never have left because that is basically sac-relige you little weirdo' way.
It goes:
"All of these resources are here for our use."
You know, there is a time.
A time when you keep your mouth shut.
A time when you nod.
A time when you choose to be passive aggressive.
A time when you might quietly state your beliefs and then move on.
Because, after all, there will be a time when they will agree that the factory farming of God's creations is despicable and unacceptable.
They will realize that animal life, like human life, is sacred and that human dominion over that life is a sacred responsibility, and that we are failing in that task.
To me, the consumption of animals is not wrong.
Rather, the fact that these animals live their entire lives without the basic rights of movement, clean space, fresh air, and ample pain relief/prevention among others, is what is wrong here.
Today's farm animals are raised and killed in appalling conditions to meet the appetite of humans. [Appetite, not need.]
I'm sorry, [actually I'm not] but that kind of needless suffering is not worth bacon to me.
