Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert

rating: 5 of 5 stars
I know a lot of people didn't like this. And by that I mean my mom. But I ate it up! I loved following Liz along her journey. In Italy, I was sitting there pigging out on bread and pasta with her. In India I felt myself craving a 'renewal' of sorts, a chunk of time devoted to meditating and eating healthy food and just nourishing myself. And in Indonesia, I lived in the house in the jungle and was all too sad to leave when the book ended. There are a few parts in the beginning of the book that seriously BROKE me down. I found myself crying and frantically wondering exactly how she managed to write about MY heartaches so poignantly. I grew to love Liz, and as she searched and searched for 'everything,' I kept screaming in my head: I KNOW THE TRUTH! I KNOW WHAT CAN FIX YOU! I KNOW.

At the end, however, she actually mentioned a Utahn friend of hers, so I was left with some hope that she had at least been acquainted with the idea of Mormonism.

Girl,

I'm totally reading this right now! YAYAYA! I love it so far. She's super funny, but some parts are so sad. I'm only in Italy. I'll let you know after I'm done visiting Indonesia!

Please do! It is such an honest book, I love it. I liked Italy the most.

love after love

The time will come when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say
sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger
who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread.
Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life...

Take down the love
letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs,
the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit.
Feast on your life.

~Derek Walcott
